“Big Data is Better Data”
This TED Talk by Kenneth Cukier was, in my opinion, a great TED Talk to introduce us to Big Data. It started off very simplistic with the introduction of a pie chart and an explanation of it. Cukier seemed very focused on how Big Data makes more decisions for us then we would think, and even hinted at big data making decisions for us before we do.
Why Social Media Likes Say More Than You Think
In her TED Talk, Jen Golbeck went into much more detail than Cukier. She explained how complicated big data is, especially when it comes to advertising and marketing. She explained by how so much of our Big Data comes from ptimes when we don’t think we are being watched, such as liking a picture on Instagram or watching a video on YouTube, and not from when we are just making a purchase.
Cukier vs. Golbeck
I thought the TED Talk by Jen Golbeck was the better of the two. Although Cukier’s was a good introduction to the topic of Big Data, Golbeck went into much more detail and was able to provide more real-life examples of Big Data.
