Big Data Post

Phone:

The first thing I hear when I wake ups is my alarm clock going off on my phone. Then I check Snapchat. Then I reply to any messages that I missed while I was sleeping. During breakfast I usually scroll through Twitter or Instagram and sometimes check my email. Throughout the day I use the message and social media apps. I also listen to music and use YouTube and Netflix later in the day.

Computer:

On my computer I use Netflix, YouTube, and browse the internet. I also use my computer to do a majority of my school work and check my grades. I also use my computer to make most if not all of my online purchases. I also check my email and occasionally respond to messages when I don’t have phone close to me.

Each of these uses collects large amounts of data in order to help tailor technology to be more useful for us. For example, Netflix and YouTube both provide videos and shows that I would enjoy based on what I have already watched. I am emailed sales and deals from websites I frequently visit when I am making online purchases. Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat all recommend new followers and friends, and Instagram even tailors the ads that appear based on what accounts I follow and like.
