It’s Complicated Chapter 1

In her book “It’s Complicated”, Boyd explains how a teens identity may seem to change as they navigate between different platforms. boyd asserts that “while teens move between different social contexts-including mediated ones like those constructed at school-they manage social dynamics differently.” I believe that this idea perfectly describes what happens on social media. People do not change their identity based own what platform they are on, rather they adjust how they present themselves based on their audience. Personally, I am much more open and outgoing on platforms such as Snapchat, since my audience is my peers. However, on sites such as Instagram and Facebook, I am more reserved and professional since my audience includes family members. Although boyd is not a teenager, she has a pretty good grasp on what is going on with teenagers and social media.
